The beautiful hand-woven fabrics from Guatemala are made in Nahualá, a three-hour drive from Guatemala City. Only in the production regions of the highlands can still be found many indigenous (Mayan) communities, in which the 1000 year old culture is still lived today. This historical connection and the passing on of handicrafts and tools from generation to generation enable people to create the unique patterns and shapes of the fabrics. The “Telar de pie” weaving technique creates the colorful and lively fabrics on the loom. We purchase the fabrics through a cooperation partner Jorge in Germany, who works exclusively with those suppliers in Guatemala who comply with the values of the World Fair Trade Organization (“WFTO”). No toxic dyes or materials are used in its manufacture. By providing the fabrics, we contribute to ensuring that this craftsmanship can continue to exist and that an economic livelihood is created for its manufacturers.
